Knitting Lace

May 24, 2010

What is it about knitting lace that makes us crazy enough to do it again? I love the look, the feel, the beauty of the stitch patterns. But, trying to knit lace while relaxing with friends, tv, radio, or any noise above a whisper is just a lesson in futilty. Trying to remember the pattern, keep track of the conversation, and keep my fingers going in the right direction is just too much for my brain! For example, I am currently knitting a lacy shawl/shrug in a beautiful red multi from Lorna's Laces. It's a honeycomb stitch pattern, and I have my stitch markers in place for each pattern repeat. I have my row counter by my side, to track each row of the 12 row repeat. I have water, no phone, tv on low. So, WHY do I end up with 3 stitches at the end???? WHY do I now have to rip, rip, rip back to the lifeline? All because of a Dairy Queen comerical that I just HAD to glance at (well, it was ice cream!). So, back to the green sweater with its simple 2x2 rib for now. Happy knitting!
